The Basingstoke Bison are delighted to confirm that defenceman Reece Cochrane will return for the 2026/27 PINIHL season.


The Scottish blue-liner arrived in Basingstoke during the 2025/26 campaign and quickly became a reliable presence on the Bison backline, bringing experience and physicality to the defensive group. Cochrane iced in 34 league games for the Herd last season, recording 2 goals and 4 assists after joining from the Bristol Pitbulls.  


Despite being just 25 years old, Cochrane already boasts a wealth of experience across British ice hockey. Before his move to the NIHL, he spent multiple seasons in the Elite Ice Hockey League with the Fife Flyers, making over 160 appearances at the top level of UK hockey.  


Known for his commitment in the defensive zone, Cochrane has quickly become a fan-favourite during the second half of last season. His willingness to block shots, throw big hits and stand up for his teammates made him an important addition to the roster as a British defenceman.


The return of Cochrane adds further strength and experience to the Bison defensive core as preparations continue for the upcoming season.


Head Coach Jeff Flanagan said:


“Reece came in and gave us exactly what we needed. He competes hard every night, brings experience from the Elite League and Team GB U20s and U18s and plays the game with real edge and determination. He bought into what we’re building here straight away, and we’re really pleased to have him back for next season.”


Reece Cochrane added:

From the moment I got there to the last game of the season, I couldn’t have been happier with the fans and the staff and how great they were. Coming halfway through a season is tough, but having a good group like we did made everything easier. I can’t wait to get back in the Barn playing in front of you Bison fans again.
